Truman Center for National Policy will honor Congressman Jamie Raskin with its Award for Exceptional Moral Courage in Public Service during its annual conference.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Truman Center for National Policy is pleased to announce that it will present the Honorable Jamie Raskin, United States Representative for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, with its Award for Exceptional Moral Courage in Public Service at its flagship annual conference, #TruCon2023, on June 2nd.

“I’m humbled and inspired to accept the Truman Center’s Award,” said Congressman Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland's Eighth Congressional District and leads Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability in the U.S. House of Representatives. “The Truman Center has long focused our nation’s people and leaders on maintaining our focus on democracy and freedom as we navigate our complex national security challenges. I’m proud to work with my friends there on the urgent imperatives of our time, from combating resurgent global extremism and authoritarianism to fortifying our democratic institutions and the global rule of law.”

Congressman Raskin’s distinguished career spans state and federal governments and academia. In the House of Representatives, he is the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. He was the Lead House Manager in the second Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump and a key member of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. Previously, Rep. Raskin served three terms on the House Judiciary Committee and the Committee on House Administration, and two terms on the Rules Committee and the Coronavirus Select Subcommittee. Before serving in Congress, Raskin was a three-term State Senator in Maryland and a constitutional law professor at American University Washington College of Law, where he co-founded the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project. He is the author of several books, including “Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus the American People” and the New York Times number #1 best-seller “Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth and the Trials of American Democracy.”

“When Congressman Raskin announced his campaign for Congress in 2015, he said "My ambition is not to be in the political center, it is to be in the moral center." This award recognizes Congressman Raskin’s track record of doing just that,” said Truman’s President & CEO, Jenna Ben-Yehuda. “Congressman Raskin’s career has been defined by a principled defense of American democracy, especially in moments of enormous challenge for our nation. His remarkable work aligns closely with Truman’s values and our strategic priority to fortify the domestic foundations of America’s global strength.”

TruCon is the highly anticipated annual conference hosted by the Truman Center for National Policy, bringing together thought leaders on today's most pressing national security issues. This year’s edition will feature conversations at the nexus of foreign and domestic policy, on topics including political polarization in the United States, diversity in the national security workforce, and American industrial policy and great power competition. The conference will be open to the public both in-person and online. Registration is now open. For more information, please visit trumancenter.org.
