FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington D.C., January 23, 2024 – The Truman Center proudly welcomes Courtney Brown as a Visiting Senior Fellow, leading the organization’s new Crisis Preparedness Initiative. With over two decades of experience in crisis management, Brown brings a wealth of expertise to Truman’s mission to advance timely, principled, and innovative solutions to complex national security challenges.

The Truman Center is launching a new Crisis Preparedness Initiative to improve and systematize rapid public-private coordination during times of crisis. Building on the experience and lessons learned from the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation - in which Truman National Security Project members mobilized to support Afghan allies and friends - as well as responses to other major crises, the Truman Center will identify lessons and best practices in public-private coordination to inform policy and improve future partnerships for crisis response. The goal is to establish better communications, awareness, and coordination between public, private, and civil society actors before the next disaster, to catalyze more efficient assistance flows and improve the protection of civilians.

"Courtney Brown's extensive experience in crisis management aligns seamlessly with our commitment to modernize national security institutions,” said Jon Temin, the Truman Center’s Vice President of Policy and Programs. “Courtney’s work to build tools to prepare for the next crisis will make for a faster, more efficient response.”

In his distinguished career, Brown has served in key roles with USAID's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI). Notably, as OTI’s Syria Country Representative, he successfully managed a $250 million program that focused on stabilizing local communities following ISIS retreat. Currently serving as the Managing Director for Proximity International, Brown was previously the CEO of RedRose and the Director of the Office of Humanitarian Assistance at Global Communities.
